What is Stamp Duty?

Stamp duty is a state government tax levied on property transactions. Together with registration charges, these add 5–10% to your property cost depending on the state.

State-Wise Rates in 2026

  • Karnataka: 5% (above ₹45 lakh) + 1% registration
  • Maharashtra: 5% (men) / 4% (women) + 1% metro cess + 1% registration
  • Telangana: 4% stamp duty + 0.5% registration + 1.5% transfer duty
  • Tamil Nadu: 7% stamp duty + 4% registration
  • Delhi: 4–6% + 1% registration
